Dr Carolyn Barshall trained in medicine at the University of Adelaide before moving to London in 1989. She subsequently completed postgraduate qualifications in general practice, obstetrics and gynaecology, anaesthetics and homeopathy in the UK.

She has spent more than thirty years in general practice, working across both NHS and private medicine and predominantly in the private sector for many years.

As a family GP and mother of two daughters, Dr Barshall has a particular understanding of the health concerns that arise across different stages of life. Alongside general medicine, she has developed particular experience in women’s and adolescent health, menopause, mental health and preventive medicine.

Many patients remain with Dr Barshall for years and she frequently looks after parents, children and several generations of the same family. This longstanding relationship gives her an understanding not only of an individual medical concern, but of the patient’s wider medical history, family history and changes in health over time. When consultants or other practitioners become involved, Dr Barshall can remain the central point of contact, maintaining an overview of the patient’s care.

Over more than three decades in London medicine, Dr Barshall has developed a wide network of trusted consultants and other specialists. She refers across the leading independent hospitals in London and elsewhere in England, selecting the clinician according to the individual patient and the particular medical question. Where specialist treatment is required, Dr Barshall can remain involved as the patient’s GP, helping to coordinate investigations, results and ongoing care. She has also developed strong international medical links, enabling her to help patients who travel frequently, work overseas or divide their time between different countries.

The consulting rooms at 2 Lower Sloane Street, Chelsea, are are managed by The Lister Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK. Dr Barshall practises independently within this setting, with access to HCA’s wider network of diagnostics and specialist services when required. Dr Barshall also consults weekly at King Edward VII Hospital, a private hospital in Marylebone, W1G 6AA, with a history of Royal Patronage.
