COVID-19 Testing
There have been many advancements and the testing related to Covid-19 continues to evolve. The testing methods we offer are all highly accurate and developed by the leading companies in this area. The costs shown are the lab fees and there is an additional consultation fee which is from £60 for a short consultation or a higher fee if the test is taken in the context of a normal consultation.
Antibody testing
i) Abbott test - £75
Currently require a blood sample taken in the surgery to demonstrate the presence of IgG antibodies which indicates a person has been previously infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that leads to Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19). Timing - 2 weeks + after Covid19 illness. If longer than 3 months after the illness the antibody level may drop to a level below the mark for a positive result. Immunity is probably maintained but cannot be demonstrated.
ii) Rapid Roche antibody test - £65
IgM +IgG antibodies. Results on finger prick sample in the practice.
Antigen tests
i) PCR testing - Cost £140
PCR tests demonstrate the presence or absence of an active COVID19 infection. Sent to TDL laboratory (results 24-48 hrs) or Circular1 Health (results same day or next day). PCR swab tests are currently needed for travel, with a certificate showing a negative result. This can be done in the office or arranged for a remote (self-administered) testing. Also used to - confirm a Covid19 infection (done remotely and positive on day 3-8 of infection) - check contacts of Covid19 (done remotely and may be repeated after 2-3 days)
ii) Rapid Roche tests or ‘lateral flow’ tests - £120
Accuracy is high but below the laboratory based test. Swab sample. Result in 5-30 mins. Suitable to confirm or screen contacts. Testing can be arranged for outside of practice.
iii) PCR saliva test kit - £140
PCR saliva test kits are also available for confirmation of Covid19 infection & also for screening for contacts (a good alternative for patients who are averse to the swab tests). This test is the same accuracy but currently not recognised for travel purposes. Result 48 hrs.
